Catching Each Other's Drips
My marriage counseling couple had difficulty finding time to be together to talk. One day they happened on a good opportunity. This professional painter and his wife decided to work together on a home project: painting the deck. They talked while they painted--she worked on one side, he worked on the other. “That way we could catch each other’s drips,” she told me. I understand now that this is what painters do. They work opposite each other so that one can smooth out the drips the other created but can’t see. This couple didn’t see the beautiful metaphor at first, but I sure did. Catching each other’s drips. That’s a neat way for husbands and wives to take care of each other, isn’t it?
